A GREAT RIDE: The Roller Coaster by Coach Kevin Kihslinger, Milwaukee, WI
REASON SECRET IS REVEALED
Most amateurs swing from the top, meaning they try and accelerate too early in the downswing without a proper transition. This leads to an over-the-top or outside swing plane that causes either a pull shot or a slice. Tour players, on the other hand, slowly and steadily increase their momentum as the hands and club approach the ball. This allows them to swing more on-plane and get into the "slot" position.
CHANGE RECOMMENDED
If you imagine a roller coaster, on the way to the top the coaster moves very slowly. As is starts its way down, the coaster is not moving at full speed. Instead, it allows gravity to slowly and steadily increase speed until maximum speed is reached at the bottom of the hill. Your swing and tempo of the swing should be the same as the coaster: Slow on the way to the top, smooth on the transition down, and then reaching maximum velocity at impact.
OTHER FACTORS
The other key here is that the downswing starts with the hips and not the hands and arms. The hips slightly shift forward and turn as the hands and right shoulder drop.
RESULTS TO ANTICIPATE
The results to expect take the form of a more on-plane or inside-out swing. This delivers improved accuracy and, in turn, increased effective distance.
This secret reveals tips on how to improve your swing.
