What's In The Bag?

When deciding which clubs to carry in your bag it’s very important to take your time and do your homework. There are numerous resources available for you to find out which clubs have received the best reviews and what people are saying about the latest releases. Sure, technology is important but all the latest technology is not going to help if you’re using ill-fitting equipment. Make an effort to get your clubs properly fit by booking a PERSONAL CLUB FITTING session with your Coach.

Driver:  TaylorMade Tour Burner TP. With a 9.5 degree loft it gives me more options to work the ball off the tee.  ProForce V2 shaft (x flex, 66g) low torque gives me the ball flight that I like.

Fairway woods:  TaylorMade Burner, 13- and 15-degree lofts, ProForce V2, s flex shaft. Some people switch off 3w and 5w for hybrids but I still see the benefits of having distance to go for the green when I can on long par-5s.

Hybrid:  Distance is usually not an issue for me so I still have my 3- and 4-irons in the bag. I might be “old school”, but I like the feel of the ball as it comes off the clubface from an iron more than a hybrid. I feel that I can control the shape of the ball flight better in an iron than a hybrid.

Irons:  Mizuno MP 29.  Many players have been playing with the same clubs for years and don’t want to change.  But your body has changed, your strength and flexibility have changed and your swing has changed. This year I had another PERSONAL CLUB FITTING session and I’ve decided to upgrade my irons to MP 62, ¼ inch over standard, STD loft, STD lie but with a Project X 6.0 flight shafts to get the ball up a little more for long irons. My clubs have gotten ¼ inch shorter, less stiff and I’ve gotten better use out of the flighted shaft.

Wedges:  Titleist Vokey spin mill wedges 52-, 56- and 60-degree.  Short game is an art. It’s like playing a musical instrument. The more you practice, the better you’ll get.  Given the right tool and having a good technique you can produce good results.

Putter:  Nike Unitized putter, 33 ¼ inch.  I’m looking forward to having my putter fit with Coutour very soon.  Having a correctly fit putter helps your posture and your setup feel better. When you approach each shot with good posture your putting stroke is sure to improve.

Ball:  Titleist ProV1. I have been using Titleist golf balls for a long time, afraid to say since the Balata cover was invented. Playing the same ball helps me feel how the ball reacts off the clubface more than if I play a different golf ball for each shot. Being fit for the appropriate ball will also be a major benefit to your game.

The latest upgrades to golf technology and equipment have really helped people improve their golf game. However, to reach your full potential it’s important that your equipment suits your swing.
