Secret #44: Set-up
The right place: Set-up for Success

by Coach Scott Young, West Palm Beach, FL

Reason Secret is Revealed
Allows for a full shoulder rotation in the backswing.

Change Recommended
At address, bump your left hip up slightly higher than your right hip. Your left shoulder is higher than your right due to a proper grip, but many golfers start with their left hip lower than their right. This automatically creates tension in the lower back and restricts your ability to turn your shoulders in your backswing. The best way to visualize this is by looking at your belt. Make sure your belt is slanted down to the right.

Other Factors
Be sure your hips stay square when you bump your left hip up. A common flaw is to open the hips when making this move.

Results to Anticipate
As a result of setting your left hip up, you will be able to turn your shoulders much more in your backswing. The corresponding result will be more power and improved consistency.
