WHAT’S IN THE BAG?
The Wedges Three GolfTEC Coaches Play.

For most of my clients, I recommend carrying four wedges, but I carry only three so I can keep my 2-iron in my bag. Here are the three wedges I play:
- Titleist CB 695 Pitching Wedge: I bent my standard 48-degree PW from my iron set to 49-degrees. This allowed me to split the distance gap between my 9-iron and sand wedge. I also use my 9-iron and 8-iron from my set for chip and run situations.
- Titleist Vokey Sand Wedge: Like my PW, I changed the loft on my SW – from 56-degrees to 55-degrees. With 14-degrees of bounce, this wedge gives me a high margin of error in bunker situations.
- Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Lob Wedge: The number one reason this club is in my bag is to get the ball up and down from around the green, especially in tough situations. With 60-degrees of loft and the Spin Milled grooves, I am able to stop the ball quickly around the green. Many beginning golfers have poor results hitting a lob wedge. I recommend spending significant time learning the proper technique before adding a lob wedge to your bag.

My favorite clubs in my bag are my wedges. Here are the four I carry:
- Callaway Phil Mickelson Design X-Tour Lob Wedge: Combining 12-degrees of bounce and 60-degrees of loft, this wedge allows me to play the ball farther back in my stance.
- Callaway X-Tour C-Grind Wedge: The C-Grind, meaning the bottom of the club is shaved at the toe and the heel, allows me to play this 56-degree club from many different lies and club face positions.
- Adams A4 Forged Gap Wedge: This is the wedge from my iron set. I like having this wedge match my irons because I primarily use it for full shots.
- Adams A4 Forged Pitching Wedge: Like my gap wedge, I normally hit only full shots with this wedge, so I like to keep it consistent with my iron set.

The specs of both of my wedges match my irons exactly, which gives me consistency through my entire bag. Outside of my iron set, I carry two wedges:
- Mizuno MP-T Series 51.06 Wedge: I have this club fit ½ inch long and 1.5-degrees upright, with X100 shafts. This wedge gives me excellent distance and trajectory control.
- Mizuno MP-T Series 56.10 Wedge: This club has the same specs as my 51-degree wedge. The main reason I play these wedges is the soft feel and the controlled level of spin. I really like hitting a lower trajectory shot that checks up with this club. I have much better control of the distance and spin when I keep the ball flight from getting too high.
