THREE QUICK TIPS ON SELECTING
A FAIRWAY CLUB

By Doug Rikkers
GolfTEC Director of Teaching Quality

  1. CHOOSE ONE WITH ENOUGH LOFT: Many players carry a 3-wood but can’t get it in the air consistently. Depending on your swing, a 5- or 7-wood may be a better choice.

  2. LONGER IS NOT BETTER: Club manufacturers like to promote the myth that the longer the shaft the farther the ball will go. On the contrary, most players are better off with a shorter club that gives them more control and a better chance of making solid contact.

  3. LOOKS AND FEELS GOOD: There are many good clubs out there to choose from. In addition to making sure your fairway wood is properly fit, the club should look good as you stand over the ball and feel good on contact.
