Minnetonka

Client of the Month
This month, GolfTEC Minnetonka would like to congratulate Casey Richards. Casey has been working with Coach Nick Pelle in Minnetonka since last September. When Casey started, he wanted to really focus on his ball striking ‰¥älacking distance and consistency.åÊ With a lot of hard work through the off-season, Casey was able to see a huge improvement in his swing. On a recent trip to Arizona, Casey shot a 91‰¥ä his best round ever.åÊ He still has work to do, but is very encouraging to play your best round ever and hit the ball like never before.åÊ Keep at it Casey, it won‰¥út be long before you‰¥úre in the 80s!

Pre-Round Preparation
By Eric Anderson

One of the keys to successful golf, in particular, competitive golf, is proper pre-round preparation. A thorough pre-round preparation routine will not only have you physically ready to play your best golf, but mentally ready as well.åÊ Read the sample routine I laid out below and I‰¥úm confident you will be prepared to play well when you step on the first tee.

Strive to get to the golf course at least an hour before your tee-time.åÊ If you are rushed or in a hurry, that mindset will stay with you during the round and those are not the feelings you want to be experiencing in a game that requires as much patience as golf.åÊ Start your warm-up by hitting short chip and pitch shots.åÊ This helps to ‰¥þwake up‰¥ÿ your hands and develop some feel for the golf club before taking full swings on the range.åÊ Hit a few bunker shots as well to get acclimated to the sand conditions.åÊ Before hitting balls, spend a few minutes stretching to prepare your muscles for the rigors of your full swing.åÊ Ask your Coach for suggestions or consider a TPI Fitness Evaluation to learn more about proper stretching exercises.åÊ Start by hitting partial wedge shots, and make your way through the bag to the driver.åÊ Remember the goal is to warm up, not wear out.åÊ There is no need to hit a ton of balls, twenty-five to fifty is plenty.åÊ You should be focusing on pre-shot basics like alignment and ball position and one swing key you are working on with your Coach.åÊ On your last shot, visualize the situation you will be experiencing on the first tee and treat the shot just as you would on the golf course.åÊ Next, move to the putting green.åÊ I like to see players work their way around the putting green in order to get a good feel for green speed.åÊ Make sure you spend time hitting uphill putts and downhill putts as well.åÊ Wrap up by making at least five three foot putts in a row, seeing the ball go in the hole repeatedly will give you confidence during the round.åÊ Get to the tee about ten minutes early and spend a few minutes making sure you are ready to go (golf balls marked, umbrella in the bag, fourteen clubs, etc.) so there are no surprises once you get on the course.åÊ Finally, learn to embrace the challenge and the pressure of the first tee shot.åÊ It is perfectly normal to be nervous, that excitement is part of the fun!åÊ Think positive thoughts, think of how fortunate you are to be spending the day on a beautiful golf course, wish your partners good luck and hit it far and straight down the fairway!

Remember this is a routine, which means you do the same thing every time.åÊ Keep your pre-round preparation consistent and follow the process every time you play golf.åÊ If you commit to a plan and execute it consistently, good things will happen on the golf course.åÊ Good luck and play well!
