1.   What driver are you carrying in your bag?

Assell: Cleveland HiBore XLS

Clinton: I bounce between two drivers. One is a Mizuno MP with moveable weight technology. It has Graffaloy Blue 65 gram stiff shaft. The second is a TaylorMade R7 with moveable weight technology.

Hilts: TaylorMade R7 10.5 degree with a Graphite Design YS 6 shaft

Sam: TaylorMade R9 Driver – Fujikura Motore X Flex 8.5-degree

Costanzo: TaylorMade Burner 09 TP – 10.5 Regular – Winn Grip

2.   Why did you choose it?

Assell: I have had a long loyalty to Cleveland products and this is their best driver.

Clinton: I have both drivers set-up for a slight fade as I typically fight a hook. I chose them both as they provided the best combination of distance AND direction when tested on our launch monitors. There are a few drivers that go further, but these two have the best combination of distance and direction. All that said, I am planning to test a number of the new 2009 drivers using our PERSONAL CLUB FITTING software as it has been a few years since I added these drivers to my bag.

Hilts: The 10.5-degree helps me to launch the ball higher and carry it farther. I chose the shaft because it also helps improve my launch conditions by reducing the spin on the golf ball. Higher launch with less spin equals more distance with the same club head speed.

Sam: The versatility of the R9 driver was very appealing to me.  Also, the shape and size of the club head looks great with terrific sound. Terrific weight and balance as well.

Costanzo: The shaft flex matched my swing speed and I wanted a higher flight which the regular shaft provides. Also, getting the TP head took off some offset and my big draw is now just a slight, controlled draw.

3.   How has it improved your performance?

Assell: I have gained distance and accuracy. I’m finding more fairways and have seen an improvement in my length off the tee. This club is very easy to hit.

Clinton: I’ve seen improvements in both my consistency and distance.

Hilts: Having the spine in the shaft positioned correctly into the club head has given the club an incredibly solid feel which gives me greater confidence over the golf ball.

Sam: My fairways in regulation are up 20% with this driver. I’m much more aggressive and confident with the R9 Driver compared to my last one.

Costanzo: I’ve added 20 to 30 yards off the tee. My average length is now 270 to 310 yards.
