Continue to Improve

Patricia Davis
Managing Director, EWGA (Executive Women's Golf Association)

In a sport that is known as being difficult to master, it is ironic how many ways there are to improve.

Once upon a time the options consisted of taking lessons and practicing at the range. Now the learning options are plentiful; practice can be indoors or out; lessons can be in a group or solo; there are videos galore on the internet for those who learn visually and technology has revolutionized the tools at an instructor's disposal.

Golfers know their game always needs tweaking (some days more than others). We slip into bad habits. Weight gain or loss can impact a swing. Swing speed may slow with age. Injuries may need accommodating. There are many reasons why golf instruction is a virtual necessity, especially if you desire to continue enjoying the sport to its fullest and want to feel good about your game.

Did you know that everyone is welcome to participate in EWGA's golf education programs? EWGA membership is not a requirement. Programs are available to help people get started in the game including a mentoring program to gain comfort with all the sport's nuances. Want to continue improving? There are programs for players of all skill levels.

Get Golf Ready*

The Get Golf Ready program, aimed at providing new golfers with the basics in order to get comfortable, is an industry-wide initiative based on the First Swing and Link-Up 2 Golf programs of the PGA of America. The program is to be completed in five (5) sessions and has a learn and play focus in each session.

Breaking 100

Breaking 100 is designed for golfers who are trying to score around or just above bogey on a regular basis. It focuses on the physical and course management skills such as: how equipment can work for you, tee to green in fewer shots, simple shots around the green, bunker shots, and putting. Thanks to EWGA's partnership with GolfTEC, Coaches from selected facilities offer, free of charge, a one-day session on how equipment can work for you.

How Low Can You Go

How Low Can You Go is designed for golfers who can break 100 and are striving for higher levels of performance. Components of this program include self assessment and goal setting, managing challenging lies and conditions, strategies for getting up and down and more. Again, EWGA has partnered with GolfTEC to offer, free of charge, a one-day session on how equipment can work for you.

EWGA Skills Challenge*

EWGA Skills Challenge presented by Golf Galaxy provides golfers of all skill levels with a fun way to improve their short game and ultimately improve overall. It offers a structured, numerical way to represent a student's short game skill and to identify key areas for improvement. The program starts with an initial short game test to set the golfer's baseline.

Fairway Friends

This program teams experienced golfers with newer golfers to help them get comfortable at a golf facility and on the course. Available to EWGA members, it represents what the EWGA is all about helping new golfers enter the sport in a fun, supportive and encouraging environment.

Finally, did you know that GolfTEC, a valued partner of the EWGA, is a great example of the advancements in golf instruction? GolfTEC offers sequential lessons and fact-based diagnosis to golfers across the country. EWGA members can receive a 10% discount on golf lessons by visiting their nearest GolfTEC Improvement Center.

Be all you can be in golf. Keep learning and striving and invite your EWGA friends to GolfTEC for a Swing Evaluation!
