Today we played 9 holes with Frank Esposito, Patrick Burke, and Esteban Toledo. I was a little self conscious warming up and too concerned with what others were thinking about my swing and game. As a result my play on the course was not as good as I hoped, but it provided me with a positive learning experience – I must remember to stay in the present and also remember it’s okay for the game to be about me while I am playing and competing at such a high level.

After playing 9 holes we had breakfast in the players area and spent a chunk of time on the range to practice a variety of shots I plan on playing. We also spent a lot of time practicing in the short game area and on the putting green.

The coolest part of the day was going to the tour equipment van and getting some Callaway golf clubs custom-made for me on the spot. Shortly after the club fitting we went to the tour exercise van where I learned several new stretching and muscle activation exercises. Once the clubs were finished, Bryan and I headed back to the range to see if any of the clubs would make it to the bag for round 1 and ultimately decided on a 3-wood and a driver.

Today was a long and productive day at the course. It started with a 9 hole practice round and some small tweaks to a few clubs. Stu feels in a good place and has prepared hard both physically and mentally.

We focused on alignment and shot shaping with clubs Stu knows he will hit off certain tees. He also worked on the putting green using a chalk line so he could watch his putts stay on the line for about 10 feet and ensure his stroke was where it needed to be. He used the right hand only drill which helps keep his putter face more stable through impact.

Lastly and most importantly we talked about how his mental game varied over the course of the 3 days we’ve been out here. As we finish getting ready for Round 1 and have one more day for preparation and planning, we focused on what he needs to do to make sure he performs at his best.

Stay tuned for an update following Stu’s first round and make sure to follow day 1 of the U.S. Senior Open!
