The All-New Callaway Apex & Apex Pro Irons

By Nick Miller

If you haven’t seen or heard about the new Callaway Apex & Apex Pro irons yet, you’re missing out. Callaway calls it “Taking Perfection Farther,” and they just might be right. At first glance, you might think the new Apex and Apex Pro irons were designed strictly for better players who don’t need as much forgiveness for off-center shots. But looking a little bit deeper into the clubs, there’s a different story to be told…

Callaway Apex Irons

The new Apex irons have been precision engineered with Callaway’s industry-leading Face Cup technology to provide exceptional, consistent ball speeds across the entire clubface. And it gets even better—the irons are forged. Despite the ongoing debate on whether cast or forged irons are better for certain types of golfers, the Apex irons offer distance with playability and an extremely soft feel through the use of “quadruple net forging and mild carbon steel.”  Check out the video below from Dr. Alan Hocknell of Callaway’s R&D team with additional details on the Callaway Apex irons:

While the Apex irons offer extra ball speed and forgiveness with the Face Cup technology, the Apex Pro irons offer the ultimate forged performance iron for skilled players. And after hitting them this week in a GolfTEC bay, I can attest to that performance.

The Apex Pro irons were engineered with a focus on the Callaway Tour players and what they like. Through feedback from some of the best on Tour, the Apex Pro irons offer a classic, authentic look with precision playability and MOI you need for each club. The irons come in a progressive set design, with longer irons (3-5) having more offset with a tungsten insert to lower the center of gravity, creating a higher launch. Here’s another quick clip from Callaway’s SVP of R&D highlighting the changes to the Apex Pro irons (and their stunning looks):

Both the Apex & Apex Pro irons are available for pre-order beginning October 16, and will be hitting stores on October 30. Considering our stance on the need for custom fit equipment, we’re happy to report that both models of the Apex irons offer no upcharge for a variety of premium steel shaft options.
