Our series for beginners continues with tips on hitting from rough vs fairway and trickly wedge shots

By Sabrina Naccarato

We’ve made it through a lot of the basics already, the gear, ball flight laws, set up and hitting the driver. Now, we’re diving into what to do once the ball is off of the first tee. That’s where these next two videos in our series for beginners come in. We’re addressing the different ways to approach hitting the ball, whether it’s in the fairway vs the rough. And once the ball is closer to the green, we’re talking about getting the ball up and on the green. Let’s get to it!

How to successfully hit from the rough & fairway

Getting off of the tee is a huge accomplishment for most beginners. However, once they’ve made it off of the tee box, they can face a whole new set of challenges. Hopefully, their ball finds the short stuff but sometimes even the pros struggle to do that from time to time. But even if the ball finds the rough, that’s no problem at all. VP of Instruction, Nick Clearwater, and his trusty sidekick for this series, Kenzie O’Connell, are demonstrating how to hit out of the fairway vs the rough.

Approaching the green

Getting closer to the green means short swings and different types of clubs. Nick and Kenzie grab a wedge and really dig into the basics of how to approach hitting shots around the green. Having a solid short game is crucial and if beginners can really get the handle on this part of the game, they’re off to a great start.

There’s only one article left to round out our beginners series, and we’re addressing maybe the most important aspect of the game, putting. Check out the final videos of this series here.
