00:00:00 - Mariah and Nick Cross are at Golf Tech headquarters for a fitting to improve Mariah's iron descent angle and stopping power on hard greens before her upcoming tournament.
00:00:38 - Improving your 7-iron performance involves increasing ball speed, backspin, and launch angle to raise the descent angle closer to 45 degrees and achieve greater carry distance beyond the current 136 yards.
00:01:39 - The Elite Max Fast club with a 30° face angle and a lighter, softer Vanquish shaft is designed to help get the ball up in the air, increase ball speed, add backspin, and improve the descent angle.
00:02:25 - The club feels good and allows me to better sense the head position without being distracting.
00:02:44 - Hitting with the new Max Fast club increased ball speed and distance by 20 yards, but spin and launch angle slightly decreased, keeping the descent angle about the same.
00:03:40 - They are testing the Apex Pro club to increase launch angle and backspin for better ball control and a descent angle closer to 45 degrees.
00:04:17 - The shots improved with higher launch, straighter trajectory, and better backspin, resulting in more accuracy despite a slight loss in distance.
00:05:09 - Getting properly fitted for clubs tailored to your swing can significantly improve your game and enjoyment, as seen with the noticeable difference between the P770 and the new club.
00:05:57 - They found a club that improves ball speed and trajectory, making the player excited to try it on the course.
⛳ Custom club fitting can significantly improve a golfer's performance by optimizing ball speed, launch angle, and backspin for better descent angles.
📈 Switching to clubs with more loft and lighter shafts can help increase launch angle and backspin, making it easier to hold shots on hard greens.
🏌️♀️ Even small changes in equipment, like shaft type or club loft, can lead to noticeable differences in shot height, distance, and accuracy.
🔍 Working with a fitting expert ensures that club choices are tailored to a player's unique swing and needs, maximizing results.

00:00:00 - Hi, I'm Mariah. And I am Nick Cross. And we are at Golf Tech headquarters for a fitting today. Yes. Thanks for having me here. So, I love my irons, but I have a tournament coming up and the greens are really hard to stick. My descent angles has been pretty low and I can't get those up. So, I was hoping to see if we could look at maybe some other options. Yeah, that's a good thing about a fitting is we could take a look at what your club is currently doing and what
00:00:23 - some of the other clubs out there are doing and try to get that descent angle up to get you a little bit more stopping power in those greens. All right, let's dive into it. Let's do it. [Music]
00:00:38 - [Music] All right. So, you just hit a couple good shots for us and we have some numbers. So, with your 7iron, your ball speed is about 97 mph on average. With 4,900 backspin and a launch angle of 20, a launch angle is actually pretty good, but you can see that backspin is in the lower side. So, in order to help get that launch or the descent angle higher, we need to start working with these three numbers right here, the ball speed, backspin, and launch angle. If we
00:01:12 - can increase your ball speed, increase that launch angle and increase the spin, you're going to start seeing this descent angle, which is 39 degrees, start moving closer to that 45 number, right? And then you have your total distance, and we're doing carry numbers only on average at 136. So, if we can end up trying to or get you to hit the ball a little higher and further, that's always the the goal on these hittings is to see if we can get that descent angle
00:01:37 - to 45 without losing any distance. And usually, we can increase some distance while we do it. Okay. All right. So, let's take a look at your next club. Okay. All right. So, I got your next club. We're going to try the Elite Max Fast. It's got 30° of uh face angle. So, it's going to help get that ball up in the air a little bit more. And then I put you in a little bit lighter and a little softer of a shaft. All of this is just to try to get that ball up in the air, add some ball speed, maybe some
00:02:02 - backspin, and see if we can't get that descent angle a little bit higher. Okay. I'm all for it. Yes. Thank you. All right. See what you got with this thing. And what's the name of this shaft? That is the Vanquish. It's even got a cool name to it. Yeah, it looks nice.
00:02:25 - How does this one feel versus your club? It feels good. Feels okay. Yeah, I can tell a little bit more cuz I think I do feel the difference in the shaft now cuz I can tell where the head of the club is a little bit more, but it's not distracting.
00:02:44 - higher. Okay, it's a good one. I do like that one. Yeah, crush that one. That's a good one. Wow. Okay, we're getting it closer to 40. Yeah, we definitely increased some ball speed there. Yeah, I like the launch angle, too. Sure. You want to take a look at those? Yeah, let's do it. All right. All right. All right. So, we just hit some with the the new club here, the Max Fast. And you can see one positive thing here. We got 20 yards already. That's really nice. However, we
00:03:14 - were looking to increase that descent angle. It didn't go up like we had hoped. Your ball speed went up to 106. So, that's a big reason for that distance increase. However, our spin and launch actually came down ever so slightly on both of those. That's what kept that descent angle about the same. So again, still trying to get that backspin and that launch angle up just a little bit to help that ball stay in the air a little longer. That way you can have that descent angle that's a little
00:03:40 - closer to 45 and be able to hold some of those greens a little easier. So let's try your next club. Okay. All right. Ready to try our next club? Yes. Ready for it. All right. So we're going to try the Apex Pro. Okay. So this has a little bit more loft. Again, just trying to get that launch angle up. Trying to get that back spin up. Uh still going to be pretty hot. similar shaft in there. So hopefully the ball speed stays up, but hopefully we can get that launch and the backspin up
00:04:04 - and see that descent angle start getting closer to 45. All right. I hope so, too.
00:04:17 - One sounded good. Yeah, it felt good. They all feel really good. Can't talk. Hey, that one looks like it got a little higher. And that was a pretty I like that ball right there. Hey, I see a green number coming up. Look at that. That's a good sign. All right, moving in the right direction. All right, you hit that one pretty good. I really like this one. Yeah, that was a really good one. It definitely kept it straighter. No kidding. We noticed that one several of your
00:04:41 - shots, so that was much straighter. Yeah. Um ball speed did come down a little bit, but that's okay. We were going to trade some ball speed to try to get this backspin and launch angle up, which we did. So, that's awesome. So, we hit it higher. We hit it straighter. Mhm. And that descended at 41 and a half right there on average. So you even had two of them in the greens with that one. So that was awesome. We did lose about a yard and a half, but I would take that yard and a half for that
00:05:08 - extra descent angle. Again, you're still picking up a lot of yardage off of your other club. But at least this one's going to come down a lot steeper and you're going to have a better chance at holding those greens. And I saw some smiles out there. So yeah, it always feels good when you actually like the club. And I noticed so much of a difference in it um just even between the two. And it's funny to think like some of them are built to be like more forgiving and maybe not so much.
00:05:31 - That's why it's so important to actually see someone that knows your swing, can talk to you through what would work best for you. Um and actually a fitting expert. No, exactly. I mean it it doesn't matter your ability or who you are. Everyone needs to get fit. I mean that's just the the easiest thing to do is get fit. even if it's just for the right length. But you can see the difference of that P770 that you had is a great club, don't get me wrong, but it just wasn't quite
00:05:55 - matching up to what we're getting these days. And if if everybody could pick up 20 yards like you did, I think everyone would be pretty happy and hit it as straight as this. Exactly. That should help on those greens. All right, we had some fun today. We did. And I think we landed on a club that works really good for me. Yeah, we did the Apex Pro uh help get the ball up in the air a little bit. And then we have a soft regular graphite shaft. All that was built in and designed to
00:06:20 - get that ball in the air, add some ball speed, get that descent angle up. And looked like you had some fun hitting that one. It feels great. The numbers check out, too. We saw quite a big difference between what I'm currently hitting and this. So, I'm really excited to to take this to the course and see the difference outside, too. It's always good when the feels match the numbers. Exactly. Makes it really fun. Yeah. Well, thank you so much for a great fitting today. I had a great time.
00:06:44 - Um Yeah. Really excited to see what this does. Cool.
