Description

Struggling to sink more putts? Watch as GOLFTEC Coach Bryan helps Lexi develop a more confident stroke by improving her alignment and distance control. From short putts to lag putting, this lesson covers practical tips to help you roll it better and start lowering your scores on the green.

00:00:00 - The Scotty Cameron putter's milling provides a firmer feel that helps you hit the ball farther off the putter face.

00:00:21 - There isn't only one way to putt, but mastering green reading, distance control, and starting the ball on the intended line are essential skills to focus on without unnecessarily changing your stroke.

00:01:18 - The exercise focuses on practicing precise putting by aligning shots through a small gate and identifying two straight putts around the hole to improve green reading skills.

00:02:20 - They discussed the eight-foot circle putt and confirmed the straight putt position before testing it out.

00:02:52 - The ball is expected to break left due to the downhill slope, so you should aim to the right of the hole as a starting point, adjusting based on speed.

00:03:57 - Using your feet to walk around the hole helps identify the break by finding where the slope changes, which reveals the straight putt line.

00:05:08 - Start with small goals and gradually build up to get beyond the tight ends, using all the space available before the hole.

00:06:24 - Develop a consistent routine by using the alignment line on your ball and assessing the green to improve your putting accuracy, especially as a beginner.

00:07:18 - They're getting closer to consistently putting, and using a simple, systematic approach helps control aiming and improve their technique.

⛳ Green reading, distance control, and starting the ball on the intended line are the three essential skills for effective putting.

🚶‍♂️ Walking around the hole helps identify straight putts by finding where the slope changes from uphill to downhill.

🎯 Using alignment lines on golf balls and developing a consistent pre-putt routine can significantly improve putting accuracy.

🕹️ Practicing with small, progressive goals—like the leapfrog drill—builds better distance control and confidence.

👣 Many golfers overlook the importance of using their feet to read greens and spot subtle changes in slope.

00:00:00 - Do you like your current putter? Well, you just got a new one, so I hope hope so. The nice part about this putter is too with the uh the milling on the Scotty Cameron here, it's actually benefiting you to hit the ball a little bit further off the putter face because it's a little bit of a firmer feel.

00:00:21 - We don't really encourage there's only one way to do things, especially with the putting stroke. You just have to be good at let's say a couple skills of putting the skills in which you even mentioned green reading. That's probably one of the most important. The second one is the distance that you're capable of controlling. Y and then your ability to start it on an intended line. Okay. Those are the three skills of a a good putter. So if I see something in your

00:00:45 - putting stroke that is causing you to say um figure something out with like the starting direction, we'll address it. I'm not going to just change everything though because for the sake of changing it. Yeah. All right. But this right here, we're going to putt from the same exact spot each time. Okay. Okay. So, pretty much right about here. Move those out of the way. Okay. Now, this is pretty much a straight putt. Okay. All right. So, what I'm going to go ahead and do is I'm going to

00:01:15 - put these two T's down. Okay. Right in line with where you should be going. Your goal is not to make it in the cup right now. Your goal is to do whatever you need to do to line up your ball or do whatever, okay, to be able to get it through the little gate that I had set up here. So, you can see just how big that is. Okay. Okay. It's a toughy. We're going to do 10 putts just like this. Okay. While you're doing this, I'm going to record some video of your putting stroke. Right. Okay.

00:01:45 - Five for 10. Five for 10. I'm going to place this down. Okay. This is the testing of how well you can just judge say green reading. Okay. Okay. So, here's two T's. What I want you to find are the two straight putts for this hole. So, every hole has two straight putts. Okay. Now, do kind of in just like a 8ft circle. Okay. Walk around and figure out where those straight putts are and we'll put you to the test by putting them. So, we're going to this hole here. Where would you think

00:02:17 - straight would be? on these two sides in like an eight foot circle. So, wait, let me walk let me walk around again. There you go. Right there. Yeah. Okay. So, that means the other straight putt would be on this side. Yeah. Does that make sense as we're doing this? Oh, completely. Yeah, definitely makes sense. Okay. Test it out.

00:02:45 - Okay. So, this should be straight to the hole.

00:02:52 - Not bad, huh? Not bad. Yeah. Let's test the other side. Okay. Pretty straight. Actually, pretty straight. So, where you originally selected right there is going to be the where essentially a lot of the brake is going to be. amount downhill slope, but you're going to be expecting a lot of break on these sides. Okay. And we're just going to go on say perpendicular to what you had on the line there. So now, what are you expecting this ball to do since we saw that that was downhill almost straight?

00:03:27 - Yep. Okay. Is this going to be breaking to the right or left? Left. All right. So, do you need aim to the right of the hole or left of the hole? To the right. There you go. Okay. Now, the severity of it, it really just depends on how much you think you're going to be using speedwise. We're not very good at controlling our speed anyways, but you at least have a starting point here. It's going to be starting to the right of the hole. We just don't know how much.

00:03:57 - Good. Wow. That's a technique of just finding the break. Yeah. So when you before you putt, like every time that you putt on the course, do you walk around the hole to look at where the straight putts are? So using your feet is something that's overlooked a lot of the time. So a lot of steps could be in the tail of um just how you're going to be reading a putt. What you did, you kept walking around the hole and figuring out kind of where it changed from an ups slope to a a down slope or

00:04:27 - where that change was. And where that change is is where a straight putt is. Okay. Okay. This one's a good one. It's called leaprog. Your very first goal is to get it past that T. That's all I want you to do. I don't care about direction at all. Just get it beyond the T here. Doesn't matter how far beyond. That is uh going to make it harder for the next ball. If you go too far. Oh, okay. Okay. Good. Now, Lexi, you have to get it beyond the ball. Okay. The tricky part about this is if you do

00:04:58 - not get it beyond the ball or if you go beyond the hole, Lexi, start over. Okay.

00:05:08 - Shoot. Start over. Okay. Oh, I actually like this. It's kind of like a game. Yep. Start with small goals. Build up. Just get it beyond the TE's first. You have all the way until this hole, by the way. Got a lot of room. There you go. But now you have less room because now you got to go beyond the

00:05:34 - ball. There's two. [Music]

00:05:46 - There's three. Nice. That was barely perfect.

00:06:01 - There's four. You still have room to go. Okay. In between the ball here and the cup. Okay.

00:06:24 - Oh, but you got four. Good job. Okay. So, I need you to be able to set some type of like direction for yourself. Okay. Right. So, where's one of our balls? You have one of them? Uh, yeah. I have one here. Oh, perfect. So, all these balls nowadays, you can see a line on here. Use it. Okay. I've used the line before, but I always will set it up before and then immediately go to address. And by standing back and looking at it, um, that makes it so much easier to see where it's actually aimed.

00:06:53 - So, get a routine going. You have your routine, you started figuring out, okay, I need to walk around the green. And once you kind of get an idea, okay, I'm going to put it to the right. Right now, you being a beginner, um, say even if you're at a new course, you really don't know how much. Yeah. Even from like this is a 12T putt, and the make percentage on a 12oot putt for the tour is even less than say 40%. Oh wow. Okay. They're not making this all the time. Okay.

00:07:18 - They're getting close, but they're not making it all the time. But this is a good way of just getting a systematic approach of what you need to be doing. So now you got the direction of what you want to do. Look at the hole. There you go. Oh, that was way too light. It's way too light. But you see how the ball's rolling end over end? Yeah. So to fix a lot of your aiming problems, to fix a lot of just the problems you have with putting, you just kind of put a ball down and go. Yeah.

00:07:47 - Which is fine and and simple mentality, but you need something to do to help it. Okay. Just right now, control what you can. Okay. Does that make sense? Cool. Yeah. Good stuff.
