4 Iron vs 4 Hybrids vs 7-Wood: Which Should You Carry?

Description

Watch as we compare a 4 iron, 4 hybrid, and 7 wood to help you decide which club actually belongs in your bag. With a real student hitting each club, you’ll see clear differences in forgiveness, distance, launch angle, and playability.

00:00:00 - Payton and I compared hitting a four iron, a four hybrid, and a 7 wood to discuss the pros and cons of each club.

00:00:23 - You'll hit three shots each with a 4 iron, 4 hybrid, and 7 wood to see how they perform and discuss when and why to use them.

00:00:52 - The seven wood felt best and more forgiving, while the four iron was harder to hit, making it less suitable for players with lower swing speeds.

00:01:40 - The 4 iron may not suit some players due to its shorter distance, but hybrids are a popular, forgiving long-iron replacement that can help slice-prone golfers correct their ball flight.

00:02:21 - Sevenwoods are popular replacements for hard-to-hit irons like the four iron because they feel easier to swing, are lighter, and provide more distance due to their longer shafts despite having similar lofts.

00:03:01 - 7woods are versatile clubs that launch the ball higher with a softer landing, suitable for various lies and distances, often preferred by better players for their distance and less draw bias compared to hybrids.

00:03:45 - Choosing between a four hybrid, a 7-wood, and a 4-iron depends on your game, with the 400 likely being the least useful option.

⚡️ The 4 iron is the least forgiving option and suits high swing speed players who value workability and shot control.

🔄 Hybrids are the most popular long iron replacement, offering versatility and forgiveness but with a tendency for draw bias.

🚀 The 7 wood delivers more distance and higher ball launch due to its longer shaft, making it easier to hit for many golfers.

🌟 For most players, especially those who struggle with irons, the 7 wood or hybrid are better top-end club choices than the 4 iron.

00:00:00 - Payton is here. We almost matched today. I didn't wear my black pants. I I let you down on that one. That's my fault. Uh but we're going to talk about some clubs at the top end of your bag. So, we're going to compare a four iron, a four hybrid, and a 7wood. I'm going to have you hit all three, and then we'll talk about the pros and cons for each one. >> All right. >> You ready? >> I'm ready.

00:00:23 - >> So, I'll have the I'll have you start with a 4 iron. Okay? And what I want you to do, we'll hit basically three shots with each one. Okay? I don't really care where they go. I don't care how good you hit them. Okay. We'll hit three with a four iron. We'll hit three with four hybrid, three with a 7wood. And then we'll talk about when you should use these, why you should have them in your bag, like who they'd be the best for. >> All right. Sounds good. We'll see how this four iron goes.

00:00:43 - >> It's going to be great.

00:00:52 - >> Okay. How was that? >> Um, the seven wood definitely felt the best. Okay. Four iron was a little hard to hit. >> Four iron was probably a little tough for you. Okay, so here's here's what you need to know for those of you at home. We've got the shots up here on the screen now. So, the top three shots, those are the four irons that Peyton hit. That club for you probably isn't very good. Um, this is generally going to be the least forgiving of the options. Uh, this is generally a club

00:01:17 - for like higher swing speed players that would be really beneficial if you want to like try to work the golf ball or control like the height and trajectory of it. Generally, a 4iron is going to be the easiest way to do that. you you were hitting it and you're like, "This thing's terrible." Like, you didn't like it at all. And that's totally fine. That's probably not a club for you. That was the shortest of the bunch. Um, on average, you were hitting it about 115 yards. Um, so like 30 to 40 yards

00:01:40 - shorter than the others. Not a very good option. Like you could probably hit I I you hit your 7 iron probably about that far. So 4iron doesn't work for Payton. Totally fine. If you're like a higher swing speed, that'd be a great option for you if you want some workability and some flexibility there. Uh, the second one we tried was the hybrid. you guys. So, that's the second set of numbers right here in the middle. Um, this one's going to be probably the most common one

00:02:00 - that you're going to see a lot of people using as like a long iron replacement. Uh, it's fairly easy to hit. Like, there's some forgiveness built in. One of the big negatives that a lot of better players don't like about a hybrid is they tend to be a little more draw biased. >> So, for somebody like yourself who tends to slice it, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. That could go a long way to helping you correct some of that curvature to the right. Um, hybrids are

00:02:19 - really versatile. You can use them out of the rough. Um, you can use them out of the fairway. Obviously, you can use them off the tea. These are a great option for a lot of people if if you're just looking to replace this four iron that's really hard to hit. Four hybrid would be a really really good choice. The sevenwood is kind of a newer option that a lot of people are sort of putting into their bag. And you said you like this one the best. Why did you like this one the best?

00:02:39 - >> It was easier to swing. Didn't feel as heavy. Went the farthest. >> It did go the furthest. >> Um yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. Totally fair. So you can see if I put these side by side the sevenwoods a little longer. These lofts are virtually the same. So the loft of the club's the same, but because of the extra length of the shaft, it's going to go a little bit further if you hit it really well. So it's one of the big reasons why people like seven woods a lot because they do tend to have a

00:03:00 - little bit more distance just because of the length. Okay. Um 7woods also are very easy to launch the ball up into the air. Um you had one where you launched it really low at 10°, but the other one was 17 and 18. So your launch angle with a 7wood's generally going to be a little bit higher. Okay. Um you're going to see more of that distance. These are also very versatile. You can use these out of a variety of lies. maybe not as much of like the thick rough like you could out

00:03:22 - a hybrid just because of the size of the head. But sevenwoods are really great for a lot of different different use cases. Whether you want to use them off the tea, whether you're trying to hit them into a a green from a long distance away, sevenwoods are great if you want that higher launch, that softer landing, and you want to add a little bit of distance. They just don't tend to have as much of that draw bias built into them. So, you'll see a lot of better

00:03:42 - players that actually prefer the 7wood versus the hybrid because they don't want to overhook the golf. Okay. Like I said, for you, either one would be a better option than this 400. We can probably just toss that one off to the side. We're never going to use that one again for you. Uh, but that's really the big difference between like a four hybrid, a 7wood, and a 4 iron. So, if you ever wondered kind of what you need at the top end of your bag, hopefully this helps you sort of see some data and

00:04:04 - see some numbers to as to which one's the best for you and would fit best for your game.
