Description

Want more distance off the tee? It starts with swing speed. In this GOLFTEC tip, our Coaches share proven techniques and speed-building drills to help you increase your swing velocity without sacrificing control or consistency.

00:00:00 - Today, we're discussing how to maximize your swing speed to hit the ball farther with your club.

00:00:18 - The key to hitting the golf ball the furthest is to keep the grip end of the club moving towards the target and up during the follow-through, rather than using a windshield wiper motion with the arms and wrists.

00:01:04 - To hit the ball farther, practice swings from hip to chest height focusing on quickly extending your legs, straightening your spine, bending your shoulders, and pointing your chest upward while keeping the club moving toward the target and up through the follow-through.

00:01:52 - Start slow to build speed from hip to chest height, practice the grip movement without a ball, then gradually increase swing size to apply the same feel when hitting a shot.

00:02:31 - The speaker practices golf swings at Murfield Village, focusing on speed and technique to improve their drive.

00:03:11 - The speaker reflects on a successful, fast swing of 143 mph that felt easier and suggests focusing on speed throughout the swing as an effective practice method.

🏌️‍♂️ Keeping the grip end of the club moving toward the target and up in the follow-through maximizes swing speed in golf.

⚡ Practicing swings from hip high to chest high while straightening your legs and pointing your chest up helps generate more club speed.

🎯 Focusing on speed during the key part of the swing, especially from hip to chest height, can noticeably increase both swing speed and distance.

00:00:00 - We are here today to talk about maximizing your swing speed. You want to go fast? Oh, yeah. Okay, perfect. We're ready to go fast. So, Lexi, we're going to talk about how to swing faster, maximize the speed that you have with this club, which is the one everybody's trying to hit the furthest. Awesome. Sounds good.

00:00:18 - All right. So, first and foremost, the golfers who hit the ball the furthest keep the grip or the butt end of the club, so the back part of the club here, moving towards the target and up in the follow through for the longest period of time. Okay? Okay. So, really, if you're if you're trying to keep the grip end moving, that's going to help you create the most amount of speed. Whenever the butt of the club or the grip stops moving towards the target and up, that's

00:00:43 - generally where you're going to start to see things start to slow down. Okay? So, a lot of golfers when they're trying to create speed, they actually do it the wrong way. They're trying to hit a golf shot like a windshield wiper where they're basically using their arms and wrists in this manner. And that's a really inefficient way to hit the golf ball. And it also creates a lot of chaos with the direction that the golf ball goes. Okay, make sense? So, what we're

00:01:02 - really going to practice is essentially just keeping the back end of this club moving towards the target and up in the followrough. So, a really easy way to do that is practice swings from about hip high to chest high. Just working on extending your legs extremely quickly, straightening your spine, bending your shoulders, and pointing your chest up towards the sky. That's how the best golfers in the world hit the ball really far and and move the club really fast.

00:01:27 - Okay. Okay. So, what I want you to do before you hit a shot, go ahead and take your address position. Okay. Um, what we're going to work on is basically just take the club back to where it's the about parallel to the ground. Yep. Perfect. Somewhere in there is fine. And then what I want you to do is basically keep the handle moving towards the target and up. So, as you swing through, you're gonna straighten your legs. You're gonna point your chest up towards

00:01:48 - the towards the sky and keep your arms really, really straight and long as you do this. Okay? So, just go Yep. super slow like that's fine. It's a good way to start. And you're just going to slowly build up speed and try to do this as fast as you possibly can. So, create as much speed from hip high to chest high as you can. Good. There you go. So, this will be a really good exercise for you at home to sort of practice. Do this without a ball a few times. You can see

00:02:11 - how fast that grip's moving. It's really helping Lexi generate a lot of speed. So, you'd work through that a few times and then when you're ready, obviously, you'd make a bigger swing and start to try to implement that same type of feel when you hit a shot. So, uh do that a couple more times. Once you feel like you're in a good spot, then let's go ahead and hit one out there.

00:02:31 - Good. That was perfect. Should I try a full swing? Yeah. Whoa. Don't know what I did there. There you go. Whoa. So, that felt fast. Very, very different. Okay. Um, let's go ahead and try to hit one out there. Okay. So, we're on number nine here at Mirfield Village. It's a good driving hole for you. So, fast. Think speed. Okay. Especially from hip high to chest high. That's when you're trying to keep the club moving the fastest. So, keep that grip moving towards the target and

00:03:03 - up in the air. Let's see you hit one.

00:03:11 - Nice. It's right down the middle. Nice. Make this game look so easy. 240. I'll take that. That's really good for me. Yeah, it was really good. 92 mph. My speed was 143. So, that's awesome. Cool. And I will say typically when I swing, I focus on speed all the way through. And I think having that mentally in my head of focusing on speed from here to here made me swing faster. And you could even hear it in my my swing. It sounded faster, too. Yeah, that's totally fine. So, this is again a

00:03:42 - really cool way to practice. If if you want to swing as fast as you can, it's a really good way to do it. [Music]
