How to Hit a Draw in 3 Simple Steps

Description

Want to learn how to intentionally hit a draw? This lesson shows how small adjustments to your ball position, alignment, and finish can change your swing path and face angle for a perfect draw.

00:00:00 - This video explains how to intentionally hit a draw with a driver, using a dogleg left hole at Beth Page Black as an example.

00:00:22 - Three basic ways to intentionally hit a draw in golf include adjusting your ball position slightly back in your stance to promote an inside-out swing path, among other simple techniques for beginners.

00:01:07 - To hit a draw, close your hips and shoulders by aiming slightly right of the target to encourage an inside-out swing path, while maintaining a normal swing motion.

00:01:51 - To improve your swing, finish with your arms and hands higher, point the clubface slightly left to encourage a right-to-left ball curve, adjust ball position slightly back, and align your body more to the right.

00:02:39 - To create shots that curve right to left, position the ball slightly back in your stance, angle your hips and shoulders more to the right, and finish with the clubface pointed slightly down.

🏌️‍♂️ Moving the ball slightly back in your stance helps shift your swing direction and encourages a draw for right-handed golfers.

📏 Aligning your body more to the right and closing your hips and shoulders promotes an inside-out swing path for drawing the ball.

🙌 Finishing with higher arms and a slightly closed clubface in the follow-through increases the chance of curving the ball from right to left.

00:00:00 - So, let's talk about how to intentionally hit a draw. I've got a hole here at Beth Page Black behind me. Uh, this is a dog leg left. This is a super common thing that a lot of people ask. So, off of the tea, we're going to talk about how to draw your driver. So, stay tuned.

00:00:22 - So, we are going to talk about three things that you can do. Keep in mind, there's a lot of ways that you can intentionally hit a draw. These are just three basic ones that if you're just starting out would be a really easy way to do it. So, the first one, think of your golf swing as an arc. You're hitting the golf ball from the side. So, your club's going to move in and around you and then back out towards the ball and then back in and around just like a circle would. If you move the ball

00:00:45 - slightly back in your stance versus where you'd normally have it, that's going to help you shift your swing direction more out to the right for a right-handed player, make your swing more into out. So, that would be the first one is just maybe slide that ball position slightly further back than you typically would. Uh, the second thing that you can do, I've got this alignment stick here to kind of illustrate this. So, generally when you're hitting this shot, you would want to set up with your

00:01:07 - hips and your shoulders fairly parallel to the line of where you're trying to go. Uh, if you're going to hit a draw, obviously we're anticipating that ball curving to the left for a right-handed player. So, what you can do is actually close your shoulders and your hips. So using this alignment stick, instead of basically aiming parallel down the line that I'm trying to go, I would just aim my body slightly more out to the right, which would help me close my hips, close

00:01:31 - my shoulders. Again, that's going to encourage me to swing more into out, which will help me create more of the draw. So those are two things that you can do setup-wise. And then the third one is going to be when you actually hit the shot. So generally, you're just going to make your normal swing, right? You'd have your hands and club kind of traveling up and around you. When you're trying to hit a draw, one of the things that I try to do a little bit more of,

00:01:51 - try to finish a little bit higher with my arms and my hands. That's going to again help encourage me to swing more into out. And then instead of having the toe of the club maybe pointed straight up to the sky as I get into my follow-through, I might have that toe pointed slightly more to the left from my perspective, be to the right from your perspective. That will help close the face a little bit more, which again will encourage that ball to curve a little bit more from right to left. So,

00:02:14 - just to recap really quick, ball position is the first one. You can move it slightly further back in your stance if you want. The second one would be just align your body a little bit more to the right. And then the third one is just really how you finish. So, arms and hands finish really high, face pointed a little bit more down to the ground. So, let's see what that would look like. Okay, so here we go. Normally, I would have that ball basically off of my lead

00:02:39 - toe. I'm going to move it slightly back. So, we're talking, you know, maybe a golf ball or two towards the middle of my stance. Instead of having my hips and shoulders basically parallel to the line, I'm going to angle everything slightly more out to the right. So, you can see how now my hips are pointed more towards the right side of the screen. Shoulders going that same direction. And then we're just going to try to finish a little higher with that face pointed a

00:02:59 - little more down to the ground. So, there you go. I overhooked that one a little bit, but there's basically the way to do that. So, aim your body a little more to the right. Get that face to point a little bit more down in the follow through. Be an easy way to start creating those shots that curve right to left just like that one.
