We're going to talk about a shot around the green that absolutely is a score killer. This is one that I see people add a ton of shots to their score with. So, for this one, grab your highest lofted wedge and let's get started. >> [music] >> So, when we're looking at a common fault around the greens that I see for a lot of high handicap players, they try to use one of two things. They're either trying to use a club that doesn't have enough loft, so they're trying to hit
00:00:32
the shot with like a pitching wedge or a 9-iron. That's a huge recipe for disaster. Or, they're trying to use a bunch of different clubs to hit different shots. So, at this stage in your golfing career, you need to get good with one club. So, grab your highest lofted wedge. For me in this example, it's a 58°. Might have a 56. It might even be a pitching wedge. If that's the case, you probably need to go get fit. Make sure we find you a higher lofted wedge, but grab your highest lofted wedge. I want you to get really
00:00:54
good at this one first, okay? [music] When we're talking about how to hit this shot, this is just a basic pitch shot. The The setup is really key. So, I see a lot of golfers put this ball way too far back in their stance. They lean the handle extremely far towards the target. That leads to a bunch of shots where you'll hit the ground first, the club gets stuck, or you'll start to flex your elbows, you'll hit the middle, the golf ball goes flying over the green. This is how you add a ton of shots to your
00:01:16
score. So, what you need to do in your setup, super super easy, need this ball position to basically be right in the middle. So, as centered as you can get it, you'll have your hand slightly towards the target, not up here by your left leg, like ever so slightly angled towards the target. You want to set a little bit more of your weight on your lead foot. So, push your hips towards the target. Then you're just going to keep them there during the swing. Once you've got this setup piece, then you're
00:01:38
just going to rock your shoulders back and forth. You can see, this is a really simple motion. Not moving a ton of my body. I'm not using my wrists [music] or my arms to do anything crazy. I'm literally just rocking back and forth here. Once you've mastered that, rehearse that a few times, understand where the club hits the ground, then you're ready to hit this shot. So, it should look something like this. This is just a 23-yard shot here. So, ball centered in my stance, hands slightly
00:02:00
forward, just going to rock back and forth. You hear that contact was super crisp. That's going to go a long way to helping you succeed with these shots, make it much easier for you around the greens.
