00:00:00 - Lexi and I discuss strategies for playing a challenging hole at Dural's Sky Track, focusing on how to approach the intimidating tee shot with water along the right side.

00:00:30 -I would start with a driver aiming left to counter a slice, hit about 220 yards, then use a 7-wood or 8-iron to approach the green, though I expect to three-putt as usual.

00:01:21 - Having a clear plan and focusing on your target, rather than fears or negative outcomes, is key to maintaining confidence and managing your shot expectations in golf.

00:02:00 - When hitting a tee shot around 250 yards, aim for a 50-yard wide target zone centered on the fairway bunker to avoid hazards, expecting your shots to spread evenly left and right.

00:02:53 - Your target is the center of the fairway, but your aim may need to be adjusted left or right depending on your shot shape, such as aiming left if you tend to slice the ball.

00:04:05 - Having a plan and choosing appropriate targets based on your shot pattern can save many strokes without changing your swing.

⛳ Having a clear plan before hitting your shot can help you avoid hazards and improve your score without changing your swing.

🎯 Understanding the difference between your target and your aim is crucial, especially if you have a consistent shot shape like a slice.

🗺️ Calculating your shot zone and planning for dispersion helps you pick safer targets and avoid trouble on difficult holes.

🧠 Focusing on your intended target rather than potential mistakes builds confidence and leads to better outcomes on intimidating holes.

00:00:00 - All right, I'm here with Lexi. We are going to talk a little bit about how to play a very difficult hole. So, we are at Dural here on the on the Sky Track. Um, this is an intimidating hole for a lot of people. Uh, we just kind of looked at the fly over. You got water all the way up the right hand side. Um kind of an intimidating T-shot. So, I want to talk to you a little bit about like how you would sort of attack this hole right now. Like as as in the state

00:00:24 - that you are right now as a golfer, what would you do?

00:00:30 - How would you sort of approach this? I think that off of the T-OT, I would hit a driver. Okay. Um, aim a little bit up the left side of the fairway cuz they do have a bit of a slice. Um, and then I'd hit it about 220 yards. Okay. Um, and then I don't know what the second. So that would bring me at 220 yards from the hole. So maybe then hit my 7wood. And so you're you're you're a little closer. It's not a 440 hole. I've got you up at the TE's that you should be

00:00:58 - playing. You're not playing the back TE's like the Tour Pros. So, we'll make it a little easier on you. Okay. Thank you. So, yeah, I probably You probably have likeund probably 20, 30, 40 yards in depending on how well you hit it. Okay. So, yeah, I'd probably go driver uh to my eight iron into hopefully a T-OT. Okay. Um but I have a feeling it' probably get me somewhere around the green. Um and then I'd probably three putt it as always. Well, we're not going to we're not going to talk about that

00:01:21 - right now, but I think the the big key to this is just really have a plan. Okay. Right. For a lot of golfers who run into trouble, especially like with your mental game or just, you know, your confidence when you're standing on a tea box like this, a lot of the times we're thinking about all the bad stuff. Yeah. We're like, "Oh, there's water to the right." Like, "I don't want to hit it there. What happens if I do hit it in the water?" I think I really like Lexi's

00:01:40 - approach there of saying, "Hey, this is my target. This is my plan. This is what I'm going to do." And then based on that, like things are going to happen. That's golf. Um, sometimes you're not going to hit the greatest shot in the world, and that's okay. But I really like the fact that you have a plan. So just for the for the viewers at home really to understand like your shot zone is the expected range of outcomes that you're going to have on any particular

00:01:59 - shot. Um, it's going to account for the top 60%. So, those are like your good your great, and even like your okay shots are going to be part of your shot zone. When you're talking about a T- shot, you're hitting it approximately call it 225 to 250 off the tee. Um, you want to basically take 20% of that distance. So, for you, let's just pretend you're hitting at 250. you'd want to plan for about a 50 yard window okay? Um, from left to right as far as where your shot is going to end up. So

00:02:24 - when you're picking a target, if you start to look at the map up here on the left hand side, you're actually or on the right hand side, you're probably aiming more at the fairway bunker off of this T, which you can just barely see down here in the distance. Um, that would sort of be the center of your of your target. That's really where you're trying to hit this thing and expect about half of your shots to finish left of it, half of your shots to finish right of it. But that would eliminate

00:02:46 - the water. I want you to bunker and as a general rule of thumb or a hook or a fade. How much do you have to adjust for your shot off of a off of a T-shot? Is it still that 50 yard dispersion? Yeah. So, your target and your aim are two very different things. So, your target is basically having that center of the fairway bunker. That's the center of your shot zone. That's your target. your aim could be very different. So for you, if you are somebody who notoriously slices the

00:03:20 - ball a bunch, your aim might be left of that. Okay? Knowing that your shot pattern is generally going to curve to the right, but your target is going to stay the same. So you could potentially depending on your shot shape, shift it either to the right or to the left. But just know the difference between what your target is and where you're actually aiming. Those are two totally different things. Cool. Te it up. Yep. So, we're going to basically aim just right at the

00:03:44 - center to the right part of that bunker up

00:03:51 - there.

00:03:57 - Okay. And that one might have been a slice.

00:04:05 - Didn't get dist. But again, because you had a plan because you picked a target that was appropriate, that ball still ends up in a position where you can play it. Yeah. I mean, if I had aimed for the center of the fairway on that, I would have been in the water. 100% 100%. So, this is where really the value of just having a plan, approaching the hole before you actually grab a club and start hitting really comes into play. This is where you can save a lot of shots off of your

00:04:30 - score. Not by changing your swing, but just by understanding how your shot pattern works and where your targets should be selected. For sure. [Music]
