By GOLFTEC Digital

Not only has 2018 been an exciting year for golf (cough cough, Tiger), but we’ve covered some impressive stuff here on the GOLFTEC Scramble. When it came to golf equipment, we got the inside scoop on clubs that were designed specifically for three-time major champ, Brooks Koepka, talked nerdy with the guys from Foresight Sports and, of course, got all the details on the newest golf clubs.

And as the year winds down, we’re revisiting our top five equipment articles. So, take a look below and if you’re interested in demoing or purchasing clubs from the top brands in the game, find a GOLFTEC near you.

BEST OF 2018: Top 5 Equipment Stories

5. REVIEW: Ping i500 irons, i210 irons and Glide Forged wedges

Ping launched three models for better players: the Ping i500 irons, Ping i210 irons and Ping Glide Forged wedges. All three models offer the finest in players clubs characteristics, with state-of-the-art enhancements providing mishit assistance when needed. Or, the best of both worlds for low- to mid-handicappers who enjoy the benefits of a players iron, with the ball-launching and forgiveness characteristics of a game improvement club.

GOLFTEC’s Jon Levy breaks down the Ping i500 irons, Ping i210 irons and Ping Glide Forged wedges.

4. Titliest TS2 & TS3 drivers and woods

Titleist TS2 & TS3 drivers and woods are about one thing: speed. Maintaining that familiar, crisp feel Titleist woods are known for, the Titleist R&D team reworked every detail of weighting, materials and shape with TS to offer ball-speed-enhancing products that are their longest, most forgiving line of drivers and woods to date.

Check out Jon Levy’s review of the Titleist TS2 and TS3 drivers and woods.

3. REVIEW: Mizuno JPX 919

The Mizuno JPX 919 Tour irons, JPX 919 Forged irons and JPX 919 Hot Metal irons feature both aesthetic and performance improvements over JPX 900 irons. From the JPX 919 Tour that were designed to appeal to tour players, to the all-around JPX 919 Forged irons and easy-to-hit JPX 919 Hot Metal, there’s an iron for everyone.

Hear what Mizuno’s Chris Voshall had to say about the new JPX 919 irons, and check out Jon Levy and Dave Pauley getting fit for the new JPX 919 irons by Voshall.

2. REVIEW: Callaway Rogue driver and Rogue fairway woods

Following an Epic year, Callaway released the Rogue driver and fairway woods. Each are more refined versions of Callaway Epic, and improved golf clubs in many ways. Callaway tweaked a few more variables – including its groundbreaking Jailbreak technology – to optimize weight in the head and increase MOI across the face on off-center hits.

Jon Levy sits down with Dave Neville of Callaway Golf to discuss the Rogue driver and fairway woods.

1. REVIEW: TaylorMade M3 and M4 driver and woods

The top equipment story of the year was focused around two words: Twist Face. The TaylorMade M3 and M4 drivers and woods featuring Twist Face technology had the entire golf equipment world buzzing for nearly the entire year. Twist Face technology was the result of a massive amount of shot data to pinpoint the location of off-center hits and the path of the club accompanying those misses.

This new tech was TaylorMade’s answer to optimizing curvature of the face and gear effect on off-center hits.

Jon Levy and Dave Pauley visit TaylorMade Headquarters to discuss the TaylorMade M3 and M4 driver and woods with VP of Product Creation, Brian Bazzel.
