Callaway Adds Speed to Club Lineup
Well, Callaway is at it again. Today they released the all new XR metal woods, hybrids and irons with the driving force that “Speed is everything,” redefining ball speed in each club’s category. Each model in the line features a lowered center of gravity (CG) with an increased moment of inertia (MOI) – the Holy Grail in club design. So what does the XR family mean for the X2 Hot Series? It means the X2 Hot is going away … and here’s why:
The XR & XR Pro Drivers have gained speed compared to the X2 hot from three main areas: the Speed Step Crown, R•MOTO face technology, and an all new stock shaft for maximum shaft load.
The Speed Step Crown helps to reduce drag and maximize speed through the swing, optimizing the head of the driver for aero efficiency. The R•MOTO technology reduces face weight by 10%, making the face thinner. According to Callaway, R•MOTO allows for a more energy efficient transfer all over the face, the CG to be 17% lower where most golfers want it, and delivers higher MOI. And finally, the stock shaft is the all new Project X LZ, producing maximum shaft load during the downswing loading zone. But enough rambling, here’s a video on how the XR Driver produces distance from outrageous speed:
The XR Fairway Woods provide unmatched distance from everywhere. Callaway started from scratch and changed everything in the fairway woods from those in the X2 Hot series, ultimately using the next generation Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup that is up to 36% thinner, much lighter and has a bigger sweet spot to increase ball speeds across the face for greater distance and forgiveness. More distance, lower spin and versatility are the highlights of the all new XR Fairway Woods:
The XR Hybrid is the next generation Face Cup hybrid that’s easier to hit and longer from everywhere. Keeping the technology in the hybrid similar to that in the driver and fairway woods, feature a lowered CG and higher MOI which helps generate the extra ball speed everybody is looking for.
The XR Irons are the first high speed, cavity back, cup-faced iron. Built for speed using the Cup 360 face (as previously seen in the Big Bertha irons), acting as a spring on shots hit low on the face while increasing ball speeds everywhere else on the face too.
The distance is incredible, and that’s just the start. When you factor in the lower CG, all that forgiveness, the face flex of the Internal Standing Wave, and the 2-piece, dual heat construction, you can see why golfers will enjoy these irons.
